Non-medical prescribing in radiotherapy

The Welsh Government's prudently advancing practice awardThe team at Lancashire Teaching Trust introduced supplementary radiography non medical prescribing, and a system whereby cancer patients are reviewed by a specialist radiographer in a dedicated review clinic. Patients are now reviewed weekly, or more frequently if necessary, with an approach that will also take into account their psychosocial needs, thus providing a patient-centred, holistic consultation.

Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund Pilots: Innovative workforce Solutions

In October 2013, the Prime Minister announced a new £50 million Challenge Fund to help improve access to general practice and stimulate innovative ways of providing primary care services. The first wave of twenty pilots was announced in April 2014.Further funding of £100m for 2015/16 was announced by the Prime Minister on 30 September 2014 for a second wave.The attached document from January 2015 details some of the successful bids testing innovative ways of increasing access and delivering wider transformational change in general practice.

Go with the FLO - Using FLO as an interactive information tool

The Healthy Minds Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust has developed a pilot project to improve attendance at group therapy sessions by using Florence telehealth application (FLO) to text patients with reminders and prompts to help them manage their recovery. FLO is a text messaging service which uses a protocol that can be tailored to the specific needs and requirements of patients.

Integrated Care - North West demonstrator sites

Health Education England’s mandate recognises the importance of the integrated care agenda. It commits to work closely with the Health and Social Care sector on workforce planning, modelling, training and development, to ensure a workforce responsive to the changing models of care both now and in the future.To ensure the success of integrated Health and Social Care the workforce needs to support redesign and this can only be achieved if this runs in parallel with workforce development.

Piloting the Core Skills in General Practice

The North West Core Skills programme (NWCSP) is an award winning learning and development initiative being undertaken across the North West health sector to improve the efficiency and education quality of statutory and mandatory training. Following successful implementation of the programme by NHS trusts and higher education institutes (HEIs) across the North West, a new project is now focusing upon introducing Core Skills to general practices, with the aim of replicating benefits across primary care as well as within secondary care.
