The North West Healthcare Science Trainee Network Board (NW HCS TNB) was set up in the summer of 2013 by Helen Liggett (Northwest Healthcare Science Workforce Lead), Nick Fowler-Johnson (North West Modernising Scientific Careers Programme Lead) and Tiffany Daniels (STP Trainee in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics) to develop the trainee arm of the North West Healthcare Science Network (https://www.nwcpwd.nhs.uk/nwphpn/nwphpn-groups/2-uncategorised/31-north-west-healthcare-science-network). The Trainee Network Board’s vision is to support, develop and promote all healthcare science trainees and junior staff from all healthcare science specialisms across the North West. It is:

  • A dedicated group of trainees that will provide all trainees with a voice across the strategic landscape locally and nationally.
  • Supported by the North West Healthcare Science Network and Health Education North West (HE NW) and has representation on HE NW Healthcare Science Workforce Board.

The Trainee Network Board have developed a set of resources to assist new (and current) trainees to understand what their training programme entails but also to give them top tips , links and guidance for their training. They also run networking events throughout the year to ensure all trainees can develop links outside their training programmes with trainees from different specialisms. The Healthcare Science Trainee Network was the first one to be set up nationally and is now seen as “gold standard” by the Chief Scientific Officer Prof. Sue Hill.
