Life Happens - Mindfulness Workshops at NHS North West

‘Life Happens: managing yourself mindfully at work and home’ consisted of two full days, a fortnight apart, and took place during February 2013 at the Manchester offices of NHS North West (NHS NW). The course was commissioned to assist NHS NW staff cope with any stress they felt due to the transition of services, which was completed in March 2013.Thirty one people attended day one and nineteen attended day two, fourteen of whom had attended the first workshop.

Introducing Simulation within the Skills for Health Academy’s Multi-Professional Cadet Scheme

In 2013, the Clinical Skills and Simulation team at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (PAHT) recommended that a patient-centred approach to care needed to be reinforced much earlier in health education.The purpose of this pilot study was to introduce simulation into the education of the multidisciplinary cadet scheme, currently run by the Skills for Health Academy.

Inter-professional Oncology Study Day

The Inter-professional Oncology Study Day is one of a series of inter-professional study days available to multi-professional learners held within Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust (RLBUHT).The aims of the day are to improve learners’ appreciation and understanding of the oncology patient’s journey, and how they can influence this through a multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaborative approach. Complementary to this, a session is delivered to identify the MDT roles and approach in oncology.

Inter-professional Learning Student Study Day

Healthcare Assistant Training at Mid Cheshire

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust introduced training for healthcare assistants (HCAs) in April 2011. The initial drive for an improvement in the training of HCAs arose from recognition that this workforce received very little tuition prior to working on acute care wards.The programme is a mandatory three-day training programme for all newly recruited HCAs. It covers a range of topics across nine core clinical skills, and includes both theoretical and practical teaching sessions.
